Hi I'm Kathryn! (You can call me Kat.)

Remember when were young and it felt like anything was possible? Me too! You were so badass.
You couldn't wait to be an adult and change all the rules (or just get drunk and watch the world burn). Good times. Magic, actually; if I could bottle that shit I would be a billionaire. It's sex, drugs, and miracles. It writes the songs that make you cry, overthrows the unjust, and paints your soul.
Well, you know what? We made it. We're the grown-ups now. Holy shit!
And all the things that mattered then -- they still matter. Adulthood is like a tempering process: into the fire, out of the fire, strong and shining. Or if you prefer, a refining through with bullshit is filtered out, your essence distilled. It's not for beginners, part-timers, or dabblers of any kind. Tom Waits was not built in a day.
I feel more powerful than ever, like I have enough love and rage to big bang another solar system into existence. How about you?
I invite you to join me on this leg of my creative journey.
I'd love to know where the road finds you, too. Let me know what's on your mind. xo K

Hand felted button hat

This is one of 4 hats that I've made using needle-felted details. I bought a needle felting kit back in Toronto in 2008 and didn't actually use it for anything until this year, which isn't really like me, to sit on art supplies, but I was sort of intimidated by the whole thing. Then, I actually used it for the project I had intended when I bought it -- to felt and bead foxgloves onto slippers. Equally unlike me, to not change my creative plan.

Oh wait, I had another idea for it that I'd forgotten until right now! To make slippers with antlered creatures on them. Huge antlers that wind around the legs. I'd been inspired by fabric Tibetan boots that I had seen in the Bata Shoe Museum, and some... very old figurine I'd seen in the Royal Ontario Museum, a small metal animal with disproportionately large antlers. Something from early Medieval Europe. I have a thing about antlers.
